After a young fan passed away suddenly, friends started a Twitter hashtag in hopes the band would take notice

A Twitter campaign to get Green Day to give a shout-out to the family of a recently deceased fan worked.

17-year-old Kaelem Hainsworth from Dublin, Ireland passed away suddenly on November 18th, and friends started the Twitter hashtag #MakeKaelemsDayGreen in hopes Green Day would mark the passing. Sure enough, bassist Mike Dirnt posted a note on the trio's website saying:

"We want to send our deepest condolences to Kaelem’s family and friends. His funeral is this Thursday, which falls on Thanksgiving in the United States, and hearing sad news around the holidays always makes it more upsetting. Kaelem, you will forever be missed.”
