In Texas, a dog was mistakenly put down by an animal shelter in 2009. Well, that animal shelter is now on trial in front of the Texas Supreme Court for the mistake – and the judges will be trying to figure out the dollar amount to reward the family of the dead dog. The court is considering whether or not grieving dog owners should be able to sue for the "emotional value" of their friends.

As you can imagine, veterinarians are worried about the case. They say letting juries decide on payouts based on emotion would set a precedent that would ripple nationwide. What do you think the “emotional value” of your dog is?
